“For the young director probably the greatest challenge will be working with the actors”— Adrian Noble from his new book How to Direct Shakespeare.
Adrian Noble was the Artistic Director and Chief Executive at the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1990 to 2003. Adrian’s productions have received over 20 Olivier Award nominations and his theatre and opera productions have won numerous awards.
Over two weekends in late November and early December, a group of Hong Kong actors and directors will have the chance to work with and learn from one of the world’s finest theatre directors.
During the first weekend, Adrian will lead a practical study of Improvisation and Non-Verbal Exercises to explore Sophocles’ text Antigone while the second weekend will involve a basic appreciation of the Stanislavski Method and Actioning techniques as the actors rehearse Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard.
The actors and directors will gather in a studio space in Hong Kong to work with Adrian (who will be in the UK) on Zoom as a total of three cameras capture the rehearsal process. There will be time allocated at the end of each session for the directors to ask Adrian questions about his rehearsal methodology and his unique way of working with actors.
